Giselle Gorringe
Giselle started skiing when she was 2.5 years old on a family skiing holiday. She started racing in Val d’Isere and in other French races with a group of British children who had also just started racing, then began British races in the U10s category when she was old enough. She and her sister started the first ski team at North London Collegiate School, and began competing annually in the BSR races and the Interschools races.
Gigi competed in a plethora of International children's races in both U14 and U16, as a member of the GB team, including La Scara, Abetone and the Czech Republic.
Now, in her second year as a FIS athlete, she has attained 16 Top 10 results, with notable results being 4th place in the Moena Super G, and winning 1st and 3rd U18 in San Giovanni di Fassa GS races. She has scored points in 4 disciplines this year (Sl, GS, Super G and Alpine Combined) and hopes to start pursuing Downhill.
How she relaxes: When I’m at home, I love to play the cello when I have a spare moment - I lose myself in the music and it helps me calm down. When I’m abroad on the racing circuit, speaking to my family or listening to music helps me relax.
Her guilty pleasure: Snowboarding!
Her coping mechanism when stressed: Listening to music!
Her top work-out song: Proud Mary by Tina Turner - I also sing it in the start gate to get myself ready for the race.
What she misses most from home when she is away skiing: My family and my dogs
The best bit of advice she has received: Failure to prepare is preparation to fail.
