LSC member Caroline Brown at the Winter World Masters Games

One of our regular AICC racers and Committee Member, Caroline Brown, has just returned from competing at the Winter World Masters Games in Innsbruck where she took the opportunity to test out one of the new LSC catsuits.

Caroline said “The Winter World Masters Games was a great opportunity to socialise with and race against alpine skiers from all over the world. The Canadians and Australians both had large teams but there were also competitors from South America and Africa as well as 100s of 'local' Europeans!

There were over 3500 athletes competing in 12 different winter sports - larger than the winter Olympics - spread across four different venues, so Innsbruck didn't feel overrun.

I had a great time and hope to still be racing when the next Winter World Masters Games comes around in 5 years time…”

Hopefully she will be joined by a few more LSC racers in 5 years time!

LSC walk and picnic

Over 25 LSC members and guests joined the annual walk and picnic in East London on Sunday. We met in Wapping and followed various canals passing the old docks, derelict industrial buildings, conversions, new buildings and several parks, including the Olympic park. We had a picnic in Victoria Park, London’s oldest public park, before returning fo Wapping for much deserved tea and cake! Click on the picture below to see a few more photos

LSC on the podium at the AICC in Murren

LSC joined 13 ski clubs for the 12th Amateur Inter-Club Championships hosted by the Kandahar in Murren in March.   We fielded six teams across all three age categories and our A team in the 45-59 category (Nikki Reid, Sheridan Killwick, Marguerite Nice and Caroline Brown) took the bronze medal. It was a great few days with some excellent racing (GS, Super G and team parallel slalom) and superb hospitality; a James Bond themed dinner at the Piz Gloria restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn and a gala dinner at the Palace Hotel, the birth place of LSC.

LSC will be hosting next year in Flaine; if any members are keen to help with the organisation please contact Joanna Milner-Percy.

Charlie Guest - Alpine Skiing World Championships - Åre, Sweden – Sat 16 February

Charlie Guest put in one of her best-ever races in the ladies’ slalom to finish 24th. Having never previously made the flip into the top 30 at Olympic, World Championships or World Cup level, the 25-year-old finished 30th on the first run and had the honour of leading the field down for the second run.

Guest temporarily held the World Championship lead, ultimately registering the 14th-fastest second run time to climb six places into 24th.
