LSC athletes on the World Cup podiums

There were great performances from two LSC athletes this weekend

  • Kirsty Muir was second in the Freeski Slopestyle competition at the Mammoth Mountain Freestyle World Cup

  • In Telemark, Jaz Taylor took third place in the second of two World Cup Sprint races in Les Contamines-Montjoie for her first podium of the season

Listen to the Centenary message from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Equality

We were joined at our centenary celebrations by 6 members of the Skade ski club, a Norwegian ski club which was established in 1889 in protest that the other ski club would not accept women! Skade is the oldest ski club for women in the world (LSC is the oldest women’s alpine ski club). The Norwegian Minister of Culture and Equality kiindly recorded the attached message for us

LSC's Centenary Reception - Monday 23 January 2023

70 guests joined the LSC in celebrating its 100th birthday at its birth place, The Palace Hotel in Mürren. Guests included The Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General from the British Embassy in Berne, friends from Kandahar Ski Club, Down Hill Only Club and Ski Club of GB, representatives from the Mürren Tourist Office and the Schilthornbahn, friends and residents from Mürren, Wengen, Grindelwald and the wider Jungfrau region and many members and their guests. The event was sponsored by Mürren Tourismus, Kandahar Ski Club and Ski Mo-Jo.

As part of our Centenary Celebrations the LSC ran a 1920’s costumed race on the club’s birthday. Both competitors and spectators dressed up and lots of fun was had by all. The winner of the race was Emma Hinde and in joint second place were Barbara Hoppeler and Adrienne Kirk.

There was a prize for the best costume which was won by Katrina Clayton who was in a stunning outfit!

British Schoolgirls' Indoor Races 2022

LSC held the British Schoolgirls’ Indoor Races at the Milton Keynes Snozone on Sunday 11 September. There was some great racing with 15 schools taking part. New Hall school won the slalom and South Hampstead High School won the parallel slalom; the overall individual winner was Holly Tutt from Bedford Girls’ School. Full results can be found here. Many thanks to the team at the Snozone and Ski MK Race Team who ensured we had a fantastic event.

British Alpine athletes need financial support

On 4 August 2022 GB Snowsport announced that the British Alpine athletes will have their World Class Programme funding withdrawn by UK Sport. This is a huge blow to the athletes, coaches and technical staff who have shown enormous dedication in their efforts to grow Britain’s standing in Alpine Skiing, particularly after the squad delivered their best ever results last season. GB Snowsport’s announcement can be seen here.

A number of the British World Cup Squad members, including Charlie Guest one of our LSC athletes, have launched a Crowdfunder together with a campaign video; please follow this link if you are able to help in any way.

LSC Awards for 2022/23 - Applications now open

LSC provides awards to young deserving British female competitors in snow sports; awards are made across all disciplines including alpine, ski cross, telemark, snowboarding, freestyle, aerials and para snow sports. Awards are generally for sums of between £150 and £2,000, but this can be varied. Individuals must submit an application to the LSC for consideration by the Board.

Award applications for the 2022/23 season will be open until 15 September 2022
